Release Notes

What is it?

The SharePoint Orphaned Users Cleanup is a command line application that can check for, and delete orphaned users in SharePoint sites, lists, libraries, and folders. It compares the users against the profile database to see if the user is orphaned. Note: this tool only works with MOSS because it validates against the profile database. It does not work with WSS 3.0

How to use:

This application must be run on your local SharePoint server. The usage is as follows:

-site <site url> - The URL for the site collection to perform operation on.
{-recursive} - Perform operations on subwebs also.
{-cleanalerts] - Delete user alerts that belong to any orphaned users also.
{-testmode} - Do nothing but report back which changed will be made.
{-?} - Show help.

Spet 29, 2009 - version 1.3
*System accounts and NT Authority accounts are automatically excluded from being cleaned
*A minor refactor of some existing code which changes no functionality, just a little cleaner.

May 18, 2009 - version 1.2
*Added the ability to delete alerts that the orphaned user has created.
*Fixed some memory issues that were showing themselves if the site collection was very large with a lot of cleanup.

Feb 4, 2009 - version 1.1
*Fixed issue with SharePoint groups not being processed properly.
*Removed lists and libraries processing because any unique users added to them are automatically added to the site itself. Removing users from the site will remove them from the list/library. I am hoping this will resolve an obscure error a user was getting.
*Added a user friendly error message if you do not have sufficient permissions to a site
